A fire broke out in a ninth-floor apartment in central Kelowna in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Firefighters responded to the 1400 block of St. Paul shortly after 3 a.m. after a residential tower alarm went off.

The first firefighters at the scene found the fire in a ninth-floor unit and the fire turned into a “second alarm structure fire.”

Teams were able to quickly control the fire and contain it in the only apartment, but several more units were damaged by water from the apartment’s sprinklers and firefighting efforts.

No one was inside the apartment at the time of the fire, and section captain Scott Clarke said the fire appeared to have been accidental. Kelowna Firefighters continue to investigate the fire.

All occupants of the building were unharmed.
