A first teaser for Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy’s highly anticipated film Oppenheimer has been released.
The short clip from Christopher Nolan’s new film, which was released today (July 28), sees a series of voices talking over clips of fire, interspersed with black and white footage of Murphy in character as J Robert Oppenheimer.
“You gave them the power to destroy themselves; it made him the greatest man who ever lived,” a voice declares.

The film follows the story of the famous American physicist, who played a fundamental role in the Manhattan Project to develop the first nuclear bomb of World War II.
Alongside Murphy, the film boasts an impressive cast that includes Marvel’s Florence Pugh as Jean Tatlock, who is romantically involved with Oppenheimer, and Robert Downey Jr as Lewis Strauss, the head of the Atomic Energy Commission of the United States.
There are also the likes of Emily Blunt as biologist and Oppenheimer’s wife Katherine and Matt Damon as Manhattan Project director Leslie Groves.
Rami Malek, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, David Dastmalchian, Kenneth Branagh, Jack Quaid, Gary Oldman, Alex Wolff, Benny Safdie, Alden Ehrenreich, Jason Clarke and Matthew Modine, Christopher Denham and Josh Zuckerman will also star.

Speaking earlier this year about taking on the “huge” role, Murphy told Esquire of Nolan’s choice to cast him: “It’s the first time he’s cast me as the lead, which I’m still a little surprised about, but i’m excited
“It’s a big part and a lot of work. But in my opinion, you’re working with one of the greatest directors alive, so you’re in good hands.”
He added: “The difference with this one is that the story is there, everyone knows what happened. But Chris tells it in a different way, as you would expect with Chris. That’s all I can say.”
Oppenheimer opens in theaters on July 21, 2023.
