If you have a Fitbit Charge 5 and are chronically forgetting, there’s good news: according to 9to5Google and Android Police, the latest fitness tracker update adds an app that lets you call your phone from the wrist. This feature has been available on some Fitbit smart watches for a long time, but it’s exciting to see that it comes in one of the simplest devices in the company, especially as someone who used to ping my phone several times a day when I had a Apple Watch.
Charge 5 owners should get the feature to find my phone automatically when they install the 171.50 update. You can find instructions on how to do this in this Fitbit help article. It is reported that the option will appear when you swipe down from the top of the screen, among other options such as sleep mode and payments. If you touch it, your phone will start ringing, even if it’s silent (or at least it should, depending on how other Fitbits work).
I say “seconds” and “should” because it looks like the update is still in development. When I go to the Fitbit app, tap my profile picture and select my Charge 5, the app doesn’t say any updates are available. The 171.50 update also does not appear on the official Fitbit tracker at the time of writing. I hope it shows up before the next time I lose my phone, which it really could be at any time.
