This afternoon, IGN has unveiled its annual Summer of Games presentation, which featured a slew of game trailers covering all genres and tastes. Associate editor-in-chief Wesley LeBlanc and I watched the show together and chose a handful of titles that we hope to see more of in the future. Now, this list will not contain the big hits of the program like Gungrave GORE, DNF Duel, The Walking Dead or the new expansion Aliens: Fireteam Elite, but highlights some games you may not know yet. Check out these great standalone titles coming to a gaming machine near you:
The last worker
The Last Worker received a new trailer during the IGN expo today, which shows more of the game’s exciting voice acting. Speaking of this voiceover, today’s trailer showed great talent: Jason Isaacs (Lucious Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies), Zelda Williams (Robin Williams’ daughter!), Tommie Earl Jenkins (Die-Hardman in Death Stranding), Clare-Hope AshiteyMaster Chief), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and David Hewlett. As for what to expect, developer Oiffy describes the game as described in today’s trailer:
“The protagonist Kurt needs some kind of break, but he can’t seem to find any of them in this trailer for The Last Worker. This narrative adventure explores what happens when humans are replaced by robots in a shipping warehouse in an environment final capitalist “.
The Last Worker will hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, Switch and PC (as well as unspecified virtual reality platforms) sometime this year.
Pacha roots
Roots of Pacha was announced last year, but today’s trailer gave us another look at the beautiful Stardew Valley-like farming game. It also includes more extremely catchy music from the game. And to top it off, we took a look at the musical rhythm minigame in Roots of Pacha. The latest in Soda Den has a Steam demo that you can play right now, and if you use the code “Smiley” you’ll get an exclusive cat hat to use.
This is how Roots of Pacha is described in the IGN trailer released today:
“Roots of Pacha allows you to build, harvest crops, make friends with animals, and help grow your village as a player or co-op. This Roots of Pacha gameplay trailer shows some new elements you can experience as you play. “.
Boat of fools
A new Ship of Fools trailer has been released today, revealing that the Fika Productions roguelike is coming to consoles. In addition, this colorful and chaotic game will feature online cooperation and on the couch. The new trailer also reveals another look at the frantic game, as well as its many in-game shops to visit and the map we will use to navigate these dangerous waters. Ship of Fools hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, Switch and PC sometime this year.
Under Oresa
From the mind of Broken Spear Inc. Beneath Oresa arrives, a new fight-building roguelike that takes players on an adventure in the tunnels under the city of Oresa. Each character you enter the tunnels has different advantages to try to survive the damp and dangerous underground. The new trailer that appears in today’s IGN showcase revealed a new head, a fleshy and imposing mass of a monster with an improvised spear in his hand and approaching the player’s character from the darkness . Under Oresa it looks beautiful and intriguing. If you’re also interested in checking it out before its nebulous 2022 release date, there’s a demo on Steam right now.
SacriFire
This JRPG from the developers of Pixelated Milk is not only fun to watch, but it looks like it could be a great return to classic role-playing adventures. Pseudo-imitating the HD-2D style that Square Enix has used in recent years, SacriFire has that retro look of the new school we love to see. Combine both elements in real-time combat with traditional turn-based actions to create what we hope will be a strategic and exciting game. SacriFire does not currently have a release date set, but it is expected to hit PC this year.
