Five Marines die in a military plane crash in California

The team’s recovery efforts have “begun” and an investigation into the incident involving an Osprey MV-22B is “underway”.

“We mourn the loss of our Marines in this tragic setback. Our hearts are with their families and friends as they face this tragedy,” said Commander-in-Chief Bradford J. Gering, Commander-in-Chief of the 3rd Aircraft Wing. Marines, in the statement.

The Marine Corps is not identifying service members at this time. The U.S. Navy’s policy is not to disclose the names of deceased service members “until 24 hours after all notifications from relatives have been completed,” the statement said.

In March, four members of the US service were killed when the MV-22B Osprey aircraft they were traveling in crashed during NATO training exercises in Norway.
