Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry, a scion of the Shapoorji Pallonji group, died in a road accident in Palghar near Mumbai on Sunday.
He was 54 years old.
Mistry was traveling from Gujarat to Mumbai in a car when the accident took place.
The Palghar police has confirmed the incident.
“The accident occurred on the bridge over the Surya river and killed Mistry and another person on the spot, while two others have been shifted to Gujarat for treatment,” Palghar District Superintendent of Police said , Balasaheb Patil.
Four people were traveling in the car, including Mistry, the driver and two others.

An officer from the Kasa police station said the accident took place at Charoti Naka when Mistry’s car hit a road divider on the Surya river and crashed into the retaining wall.
The bodies of Mistry and Jahangir Pandol have been shifted to the Kasa Rural Hospital for an autopsy.
The police officer said the injured occupants of the car, Anayta Pandol, who was driving the car, and Daryus Pandol, have been taken to a private hospital in Vapi in Gujarat for treatment.
“Devastating news… My brother Cyrus Mistry passed away. Can’t believe it. Rest in peace Cyrus,” Baramati MP and NCP leader Supriya Sule wrote on Twitter.
When he helped the affairs of the Tata Group between 2012 and 2016, he had a falling out with Ratan Tata, which led to his ouster.
He held an 18.4% stake in Tata Sons, through his company Cyrus Investments Pvt. Ltd.
