An investigation is underway after the body of a missing 41-year-old man was located over the weekend.
Nathaniel Watters, 41, was found Saturday night in the Nitinat Lake area, according to a statement issued by the family that was posted on social media by a family friend.
“Thank you so much to everyone for sharing Nathaniel’s information and searching for him throughout this week, it was amazing and touching to see so many people spend so much of their time helping us find him. Having such a strong community all around us makes this difficult time a little easier, ”the publication says.
Watters’ disappearance was reported after he was last seen around 4:30 a.m. in the Central Saanich Keating area on July 8. Although it was last seen in Central Saanich, its last known location was north of Fairy Lake on a forest service road to Port. Renfrew.
The Saanich Central Police Department confirmed on Sunday afternoon on social media that Watters was found dead and said his death is currently being investigated by the Lake Cowichan RCMP and the British Columbia Coroners Service.

The disappearance of the 41-year-old man sparked law enforcement search efforts by friends and family, who rented helicopters and SUVs to help locate him.
A GoFundMe was also created to cover Watters ’search costs and less than 24 hours after its release, it had raised over $ 13,000.
“The support has been incredible. Financing a helicopter is one thing; finding one available is another, ”Stu Hoffmann, a close friend of Watters’s, told CHEK News on July 11th.
