Four-day work week: Atom Bank claims increased productivity

A British bank that has switched to a four-day working week said it had been able to attract more talent and had seen improved productivity and staff morale.

Atom Bank defended the initiative, which it filed in November without losing pay, after some companies participating in a separate trial raised doubts about the viability of the work pattern.

Anne-Marie Lister, chief people officer at Atom, said the lender was now speaking out to encourage other companies to keep up with the change. “We’ve had a lot of success behind it, but it’s not easy to implement,” he said, adding that the traditional five-day week was so entrenched that going down to four “isn’t going to be an overnight success.” . i
