France joins US-led Artemis agreements on lunar exploration

France has signed U.S.-designed Artemis agreements and joined the international lunar exploration program, the U.S. State Department said Wednesday.

France is the 20th nation to sign the Artemis agreements, drafted by NASA and the US State Department.

The principles of the agreements include peaceful exploration, transparency, interoperability, emergency assistance, registration of space objects, release of scientific data, preservation of heritage, space resources, activities and orbital debris.
