Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is on Everton’s goal list as Frank Lampard seeks to make at least four new signings to avoid another relegation battle.
Everton are expected to complete the signing of defender James Tarkowski with a free transfer and Lampard also wants to add at least one new midfielder to his squad this summer.
Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher occupies a prominent place on Lampard’s list, but the England midfielder is expected to have a chance to impress Thomas Tuchel during the pre-season.
That means Lampard could have to wait until late in the transfer window to find out Chelsea’s plans for Gallagher and Everton’s head coach also has Winks on a goal list.
Winks has been told he could leave Tottenham this summer, but with tight finances, Everton would probably only be interested in transferring the 26-year-old for the season.
Another Chelsea midfielder, Billy Gilmour, is also much loved by Lampard, but the Scottish international had a difficult time on loan to relegated Norwich City.
Winks has been relegated to Tottenham since the appointment of head coach Antonio Conte and the signing of midfielder Roman Bentancur.
The Spurs are believed to value Winks, who have two years left on their contract, at £ 20m, but Everton would consider an initial loan deal before any possible permanent move.
Since taking over from Rafa Benitez in late January, Lampard has already attacked Tottenham once signing Dele Alli on an initial free transfer with appearance-related add-ons.
Lampard will have to be creative in the transfer market, which is why he made an early move for Tarkowski, who is a free agent after his contract with Burnley expired at the end of the season.
Tarkowski was interested in Aston Villa and other Premier League clubs, but was already inclined to join Everton before Villa turned their attention to Sevilla’s Diego Carlos.
Most of the money Everton spend this summer may have to go to strikers, with the future of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in doubt.
