George Street closed Hove after a fire broke out on a plane

A HIGH street has been closed after a fire in a flat above a restaurant.

The incident happened around 3pm this afternoon on George Street, Hove, towards Blatchington Road.

It happened over a restaurant on one floor, but it is unclear if there were any injuries at the scene.

A video shows smoke coming out of a window on the first floor of the building.

Police, firefighters and ambulances are at the scene and the road is blocked.

The East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) confirmed that a fire truck was present.

A spokeswoman said: “We were called at 3:05 pm to witness a fire on a commercial property on George Street in Hove.

“We used two respirators and a hose reel to put out the fire.

“A fire investigation is needed today or tomorrow.”

Sussex police have been approached for comment.
