Matthew Morrison was fired from ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ for sending “a series of flirtatious direct messages,” sources allege.
The former Glee star was fired from Fox’s reality talent competition after following her “inappropriate relationship with a female contestant.”
A source told PEOPLE that the 43-year-old actor was fired “after having an inappropriate relationship with a contestant.”
They added: “They did not have sex, but he contacted her through flirtatious direct messages on social media. He was uncomfortable with his comment line and went to the producers, who later implicated Fox. He was fired after his own investigation. “

The source shared that Matthew and the unknown woman “were never found displaced.”
They continued: “It’s just messages that crossed the line.”
Matthew and Fox’s representatives did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment, but last week the Broadway star confirmed his departure after failing to comply with “competition protocols.”
He said, “Having the opportunity to be a judge on So You Think You Can Dance was an incredible honor for me. So I’m very sorry to let you know that I’m leaving the show.
“After filming the rehearsals for the show and completing the selection of the 12 finalists, I did not follow the production protocols of the competition, which prevented me from being able to judge the competition fairly.
“I can’t apologize enough to everyone involved and I’ll be watching from all of you what I know will be one of the best seasons so far.”
Since the show, which includes a jury of JoJo Siwa and Stephen “tWitch” Boss and host Cat Deeley, is pre-recorded, Matthew is expected to appear in a few episodes until his replacement is found this month.
