Gold Coast Suns youth Will Powell has been sidelined after suffering a leg injury in a game against Adelaide.

Powell’s night ended in the third quarter of the Suns’ victory of 18. 8. (116) to 10. 13. (73) over the Crows at Metricon Stadium when his right leg was trapped beneath him in an inning.

The 22-year-old cried out in agony immediately after the confrontation, with cameras capturing his right foot at a right angle from where it is usually due to the twisting of his leg.

The unfortunate incident left commentators covering the match and the players stunned, with the match stopped for more than seven minutes when Powell was kicked off the ground.

“That’s horrible! They’re probably going to have to stop the game because of that. play.

“Someone in the referees ‘department should call them on the radio to stop the game. It’s a terrible injury,” added Dermott Brereton, the Hawks’ great.

“A tremendous teammate, a charming young man, has become a fantastic player for this team. That is horrible.

“We can still see the sole of the foot there, even from a distance, turned at a right angle from where it should be. It’s a horrible sight. We all grimaced and gasped when we first saw it.” .

The match was stopped for more than seven minutes when Powell was loaded on a stretcher and kicked out (Getty).

Suns captain Jarrod Witts admitted that the team went through a “calm” in the minutes following the shocking injury.

“It’s hard. Will is a good clubman (and) he brings so much energy to our football club and we love him,” Witts told Fox Footy after the game.

“Hopefully it wasn’t too bad, but it didn’t look too good. It was probably a little calm after the injury, but we were able to get it back on our terms.”

Powell was one of two Suns injured in the game, with Connor Budarick suffering a hamstring injury in the third quarter.

The Suns remain in 11th place in the standings with a 7-6 record after the win, just four points from first place in the top eight.
