Google is merging two of its video calling applications into one.
In a blog post, the company announced that it will change all features of Google Meet to Duo “for a single integrated video solution.”
Duo is designed for personal video calling and includes a familiar mode and effects such as scribbles and masks. Google Meet, which was made available to everyone in 2020, includes live captions, automatic lighting adjustments, and noise cancellation.
The company will change its Duo name to Google Meet later this year.
Engadget reports that the current Meet app will be renamed Meet Original. According to The Verge, Google will stop using the latter.
Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like Google is the way to go.
“The Duo mobile app had a lot of sophistication, especially under the hood,” Dave Citron, product director of Google Video Products, told The Verge. “Especially in emerging markets, where network connectivity was poor or highly variable.”
Google will begin changing various Meet features in the Duo mobile app this month, such as personalized virtual backgrounds, meeting scheduling, and meeting chat.
