Google News for computers had a sleek, new look and a couple of new features.
The search giant detailed the update in a blog post on June 22, complete with images of the news. When you first go to Google News on the web, you may see a message asking if you want to try the new look.
First, the new design moves different categories, such as “For You” and “Technology,” from the sidebar to a new top navigation bar. Then the “Start” segment now includes “Your briefing” with news tailored to you. This includes “Top News”, including “Full Coverage” to bring together various articles on a topic.
There’s also a new “Local News” section that shows the top news from specific areas, such as Toronto. Users can freely add regions to this section and scroll through them by clicking on the different buttons.
Below is “Your Topics,” which includes stories in various categories, such as “World,” “Business,” “Technology,” and more. This section can also be customized and allows users to choose and choose topics to present.

Overall, the new look looks much less like a story channel and more like a digital diary with several sections focusing on different stories and topics.
In addition to the change in the appearance of Google News, Google also detailed in its blog that it expanded the “Fact Check” section. Fact Check highlights the denial of viral claims by organizations such as “Full Fact”. However, The Verge notes that Fact Check is still hidden at the bottom of the page (I didn’t even find it on my Google News page).
