As announced at I / O 2022 in May, Google Wallet launches today as an update to the old Google Pay app (which has the multicolored “G” and “Pay” on a white background).
Update 20/7: As of Wednesday morning, the new Google Wallet is being rolled out widely on Android and Wear OS. The Play Store tab has been updated with the new icon, description and screenshots. There are three campaign poles: convenient, useful, safe and private.

If you unsubscribed on Monday, there is another (minor) update today. It may take a while for the updated QS tab and lock screen shortcut to appear. In wearables, Google Wallet initially focuses on payment methods as before.
Original 18/7: At a high level, Google wants to replace your physical portfolio. This starts with credit and debit cards, as well as traffic tickets (and events), flight boarding passes, gift / loyalty cards, and immunization records. The initial drive also includes virtual car keys and student IDs.
The app, which is only called “Wallet”, includes a dynamic color theme and has payment cards that appear on a carousel at the top. The following channel shows several steps, while you can “Add to Wallet” from the lower right FAB (floating action button). After the upgrade, you’ll also notice that the quick settings box is now called “Wallet” with the new icon, which also appears on the Pixel lock screen.
“Wallet settings” by tapping your profile picture links to: Payment profile, Add Gmail passes, Review purchases (transaction details), Updates to your subscriptions (events + flights), and marketing emails.
In the future, Google Wallet may store mobile driver’s licenses and state IDs, as well as hotel keys and office badges. The first depends on state DMVs (in the US) and will arrive as soon as “later this year,” with Android already supporting the underlying technology.
With the launch of Google Wallet, “Google Pay” will continue to be responsible for the actual transaction. This brand will appear as stickers in stores, payment terminals and online as the “Buy with Google Pay” button. It’s basically like the iPhone: the Wallet app and the Apple Pay service.
Google Wallet is being implemented as an existing update to the old Google Pay. Version 2.150.460235810 has not yet been widely released in the Play Store, but today you can download it side-by-side using the Mirror APK.
Wallet is set to be available in more than 40 countries, as is Google Pay. “GPay” with money management capabilities and P2P payments will remain accessible in the US, Singapore and India. The latter country is not getting the new Wallet experience.
