Republican Mayra Flores, who last week won a seat in South Texas occupied almost exclusively by Democrats for more than 100 years, discussed whether her historic victory indicates a red wave in November.
Congresswoman argued on Sunday that the Democratic Party took the district’s voters “for granted” and felt “entitled” to their vote. He went on to say that the party continued to make the same promises, but nothing had changed.
“Honestly, I had had enough,” she said, explaining what prompted her to run for office.
Speaking during an interview with Sunday Morning Futures, Flores, who was born in Mexico and is married to a Border Patrol agent, argued that “South Texas has always been conservative,” and noted that his district is “all about faith and family and hard work.”
MEETINGS OF MIGRANTS ON THE SOUTHERN BORDER GET A NEW MEMORY IN MAY AS THE NUMBER CONTINUES INCREASING
Flores defeated Democrat Dan Sanchez in a second round of Tuesday’s election that Republicans say are indicative of a new trend for Latino voters, while Democrats argue the election was just a coincidence.
Immigration is a major issue for Flores, and he noted that the “border crisis” is “something we see here every day.”
He noted that he moved to America when he was 6 years old and “was lucky enough to come here legally.”
“But I don’t want my experience to be a weird experience,” Maria Bartiromo told presenter. “I want more kids like me to be able to come here legally to the United States.”
Flores then argued that “the Biden administration’s policies are only harming immigrants” and Americans.
The number of migrant encounters on the southern border reached a new record in May, with 239,416 overwhelming encounters, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced last week, as officials fear the unprecedented numbers will continue to rise. during the summer months.

The 239,416 migrant encounters overshadowed the 180,597 encounters in May 2021 and the 23,237 encounters in May 2020. It also exceeds the 235,478 encounters in April 2022, setting a new record for encounters.
The massive figures came during a month in which the Biden administration tried to end expulsions under the Title 42 health order, which were implemented during the Trump administration due to the pandemic of COVID-19 and which have been used to deport most migrants detained at the border.
Flores told Bartiromo on Sunday that he wants to improve the immigration process, arguing that “it’s out of date.”
“We need a process that is safer and faster for the good people who want to come here [the] United States and work hard for the American dream, “he said.
He went on to say that he believes “we need to focus on legal immigration and not on illegal immigration which is only funding criminal organizations and of course also increasing human trafficking and human trafficking and also child trafficking “.
