Greg Sankey sends a message to coaches ahead of SEC media days

After more than a month out, the SEC football world will reunite this week in Atlanta for the league’s annual media days.

The one-off public exchange between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher was one of the main topics of the SEC’s spring meetings in early June, but Commissioner Greg Sankey wants coaches on any of the media days to stay focused on the their own equipment.

“What I said to Destin, and that’s a good reminder, I hope [the head coaches are] all looking … they are responsible [at SEC media days] to talk about their players, their programs and the prospects of their season, “Sankey said in an interview Monday morning on SEC Network.” If you remember the three P’s, you’ll be in good shape. You’ll be asked for the fourth P to talk about everyone else and everything else, and you better figure out how to manage yourself [those questions from reporters]. ”

Sankey said Destin’s head coach meetings were healthy and productive and said, “I think before we introduced ourselves, there was a recognition” of the need to keep disputes at home.

Another issue expected to come out this week is the readjustment of the conference after USC and UCLA agreed to join the Big Ten last month.

“Answer the question you want to answer, not the one they ask you,” Sankey offered as advice to the coaches.

Monday’s session will include Brian Kelly of LSU, Lane Kiffin of Ole Miss and Eli Drinkwitz of Missouri.
