ShutDownDC, a liberal advocacy group in Washington, DC, said Friday that it will offer up to $ 250 to service workers in the district for each view of judges who overturned Roe v. Wade.
Leading the news: This comes just days after Judge Brett Kavanaugh was forced to leave a restaurant in DC after abortion rights protesters showed up outside the venue.
- The group is specifically targeting Kavanaugh and fellow judges Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett and Chief Justice John Roberts.
What they’re saying: “DC service industry workers … If you see Kavanaugh, Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch, Coney Barrett or Roberts, send us the details!” ShutDownDC said in a tweet.
- “We will offer you $ 50 for a confirmed sighting and $ 200 if they are still there 30 minutes after your message.”
- Twitter has not responded to whether ShutDownDC’s tweet violates any of its Terms of Service guidelines.
The big picture: Before the Supreme Court overturned Roe, the federal government warned that there could be a potential increase in political violence once the sentence is handed down.
Between the lines: Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America and Liberate Abortion Campaign issued a statement in late June saying they reject all threats of violence stemming from the decision, adding that “[t]they don’t speak for us, our followers, our communities or our movement. “
