A gunman killed in a shooting at Duncanville Summer Camp has been identified
The gunman who was killed in a shootout with Duncanville police at a youth summer camp has been identified as Brandon Ned, 42.
DUNCANVILLE, Texas – The Texas Rangers are now investigating the deadly shooting at a Duncanville summer youth camp.
Police say Brandon Ned, 42, of Dallas, entered Duncanville Fieldhouse Monday with a handgun. He exchanged words with a staff member in the lobby and then fired.

Staff and children were immediately confined.
Police arrived within two minutes of the first 911 call and ended up exchanging gunfire with the gunman. He was run over and pronounced dead at the hospital.
No one else was injured.
William Burse was washing his car near Monday when he heard gunshots. He ran to see if he could help. Duncanville police officers were already at the scene. He met two frightened camp counselors.
“My heart was beating so fast. Two girls thought I had something on my hand. Unfortunately, I didn’t. I was trying to come for help and stuff,” she recalled. “The staff treated them very well. They took them safely to the bus and everything.”
Ned is no stranger to law enforcement. He has a photograph of a 2011 conviction for manslaughter. He was also convicted of cocaine possession.

The reason for the shooting is still unclear, along with the question of how Ned got the gun.
According to Duncanville police, about 150 children and staff were inside the cottage at the time of the deadly encounter.
Donna Pearson’s brother runs the camp.
“I got here. I talked to him briefly. He said the kids were fine. They went into active protection mode,” he recalled.
Pearson says his brother was relieved that no one was injured.
Campers and counselors hid inside closed classrooms, which prevented Ned from entering.
Detectives say Ned tried to enter a classroom but was unable to enter. He fired through the door, but no one was hit by the bullet.
Parents praise coach Pearson’s actions. Her sister says she is a born leader who kept quiet under pressure.
“The staff and the kids were fine. They were securing the venue,” he said.
The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation.
The summer house in the country house remains closed.
Mourning counselors are being made available to anyone who needs to talk.
