According to the Mayo Clinic, hearing loss and facial paralysis associated with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome are temporary, but may become permanent.

This has not been an easy year for the Bieber family, as Justin’s wife, Hailey, was hospitalized in March with a small blood clot in her brain that caused her to have stroke-like symptoms.
It was reported at the time that Justin would not leave the side of his 25-year-old wife during his traumatic trial.

Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is a complication of shingles, caused by the same virus as chickenpox (VZV), which can cause facial paralysis.
The virus reactivates after being dormant for years and causes inflammation and irritation of the facial nerves.

The virus can be reactivated when the immune system is weakened and less able to fight infection. Stress is often a trigger.
