Halifax beach closed due to high levels of bacteria

Halifax Regional Municipality warns residents that Chocolate Lake beach is closed due to high levels of bacteria in the water.

Authorities say the beach is closed for swimming until further notice.

Recent municipal tests show that levels of bacteria in the water exceed Health Canada’s swimming guidelines.

Officials say high levels of bacteria can be caused by a variety of factors, such as dogs, birds, other wild animals and high temperatures.
