Filmmaker Woody Allen says he is no longer interested in making movies, arguing the rise of streaming and the demise of movie houses.
Speaking with Alec Baldwin during an appearance on Instagram Live on Tuesday to promote his collection of “Zero Gravity” comedy stories, he says the enjoyment is gone and that after his next film, the fifties as director, could have ended:
“I’ll probably make at least one more movie. Much of the excitement is gone. When I used to make a movie, I would go to a movie theater all over the country. Now you make a movie and spend a couple of weeks to a movie theater – maybe six weeks or four weeks and then it goes straight to the broadcast or pay per view … It’s not the same … It’s not that nice for me.
I don’t have the same fun as putting together a movie and putting it in a theater. It was a nice feeling to know that 500 people saw it once … I don’t know how I feel about making movies. I will make another one and we will see how it feels ”.
Allen, after the recently released “Rifkin Festival,” confirmed that he will be making another film in Paris in the fall, but offered no details.
The previously celebrated filmmaker has become a pariah in Hollywood in recent years as allegations of sexual abuse against his daughter Dylan Farrow resurfaced.
Amazon Studios remarkably canceled a $ 68 million four-movie deal, and Allen’s recent films have had trouble getting distribution.
