Here are the top 10 intersections in Ottawa for red light camera violations

King Edward Avenue is a hot spot for motorists with red lights, with thousands of drivers trapped by cameras in the city of Ottawa.

Data published on the Ottawa City Open Portal shows that red light cameras emitted 53,956 entries at the intersections of the city of Ottawa in 2021. The three red light cameras on King Edward Avenue , between Besserer Street and the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge, issued 8,500 tickets last year.

The camera on King Edward Avenue heading south on St. Patrick issued 5,868 tickets for the red light last year, the highest of any camera in the city of Ottawa. The camera issued 4,739 entries in 2019 and 3,202 entries in 2020.

The camera on King Edward Avenue heading north to St. Andrew issued 2,529 entries in 2021, while the camera on King Edward Avenue heading north on Besserer Street issued 137 entries in December, the only month active for the camera, according to statistics.

The other three locations in the top five for red light camera violations were Russell Road heading south to St. Laurent Boulevard, Walkley Road west to Don Reid Road and Hunt Club Road east to Downpatrick / McCarthy Road.

The “Open Data” list shows 68 locations for red light cameras in 2021; however, three cameras issued zero entries throughout the year.

The fine for being caught red-light by red-light cameras is $ 325, which includes a service fee and a surcharge for the victim. The ticket to operate the red light is issued to the registered owner of the vehicle.

  6. Kent Street northbound Arlington: 1,957 tickets
  7. Carling Avenue east to Iroquois: 1,524 tickets
  8. Prince of Wales Drive north on Hogs Back Road: 1,462 tickets
  9. Bank Street north on Riverside Drive: 1,388 notes
  10. Berrigan Drive northbound on Wessex Road: 1,211 tickets

Here’s a look at the top five locations for red light camera entries issued in 2021

  1. Hawthorne Road north to Leitrim Road: 43 tickets (January to June)
  2. Eastbound Carling Avenue to Island Park Drive: 53 entrances
  3. March Road east to Carp Road: 170 entrances
  4. Jockvale Road east to Strandherd Drive: 174 entrances
  5. Cyrville Road west to Innes Road: 180 entrances

The northbound King Edward Avenue camera at Besserer issued 137 tickets in December, the only month it issued tickets in 2021. The King Edward and Besserer Street red light camera issued the fifth most tickets in 2020 .

The City of Ottawa’s open data website showed that more than 35,000 tickets were issued for red light camera violations on Ottawa highways in 2020.
