Max Verstappen resumed when he left Baku to mark the fastest lap of the first training session of the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend.
With soft tires, Verstappen clocked a time of 1m 15.158s to lead second-placed Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari by 0.246s. Alpine’s Fernando Alonso was able to enter the battle between Ferrari and Red Bull when he turned 0.373 seconds behind Verstappen, third with the average tire. Sergio PĂ©rez finished in P4.
Charles Leclerc set the fifth fastest time of the session, ahead of George Russell in sixth, with Lewis Hamilton’s other Mercedes further back in 8th place. It was a good session for Aston Martin, with Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel in 7th and 9th place as McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo completed the top 10.
