Home and Away star Dee Smart has admitted to common assault after hitting a child on the street.
Smart, 55, was seen attacking a small child in Chippendale in Sydney in January, the Inner West Courier reported.
A witness said they saw Smart hitting the child in the head and shoulders several times.
“Then the defendant started swearing at the victim, using words like‘ look what you did, ’” police said.
The boy was then heard screaming before Smart threw a plastic bottle, which hit the boy in the ribs, police said.
Smart in a police interview later admitted that he had “just hit and hit and hit” the boy.
The former actress pleaded guilty to joint assault and on Tuesday was sentenced to a two-year community correctional order in Downing Center Local Court.
She had asked to be charged on mental health grounds, but this was denied.
Smart played Lucinda Croft in Home and Away in 1991 and 1992.
She also starred in the Footy Show between 1995 and 2002 as Lady Luck, who gave betting tips to gamblers.
