(CNN) More than 1,000 people have been killed and at least 1,500 injured in a magnitude 5.9 earthquake in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday. It is the deadliest earthquake in the country in decades and comes at a time when the Taliban-led country is facing an economic and famine crisis.
The death toll and the number of wounded are expected to rise as rescue and relief missions continue.
