Max Verstappen won the Hungarian Grand Prix in impressive style after Ferrari again conspired to ennoble themselves with a strange strategic call.
Lewis Hamilton finished second and George Russell third.
The red cars looked to be in complete command of proceedings once Charles Leclerc managed to end Russell’s manly resistance on lap 30 of 70.

George Russell took his first pole position but finished third at the Hungaroring
Leclerc made his move on the outside of the opening corner, his car faster than the Mercedes, and then bravely braked late to take the lead amid huge cheers from the biggest crowd ever to fill the ‘Hungaroring: 290,000 over the weekend.
But Ferrari decided to switch it to hard tires. That rubber was terribly slow. And he was soon swallowed up by Verstappen, who had started 10th after a problem in qualifying, on lap 40.

Then the Dutchman turned, perhaps a victim of spit and rain stains. He briefly relinquished his lead to Leclerc, but simply made another pass on Leclerc and cruised to victory, extending his championship lead to 80 points, more than three wins with nine races remaining.
Leclerc finished an unbelievable sixth.
The polls will take place at Ferrari, where they are losing their minds ahead of the summer holidays. Pirelli, the tire suppliers, hadn’t even mentioned the medium-medium-hard strategy that Ferrari had made autonomous.
Boss Mattia Binotto must be sweating over his position. Carlos Sainz, in the other Ferrari, finished fourth.
Hamilton, who started seventh, made a brilliant recovery. Quick all afternoon, he made his last significant moves ahead of Saiinz on lap 63 and then Russell two laps later. Hamilton was helped by being on soft tires at the end. It was a good performance from everyone involved at Mercedes.
