Gujarat Titans, playing with his first IPL, led the league stage, won the first place and then got the victory in the final of the IPL 2022 against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad. Below are some of his key members reacting to his fantastic victory.David Miller (481 runs to 68.71): “It’s been a great journey. Finishing the bottom line was very special and being there on the spot [of victory]. It has been a collective effort, everyone has put their hand in the key moments. One of the best rides I’ve ever done. It has been a relaxed atmosphere led by [head coach] Ashish Nehra i [captain] Hardik [Pandya]. Hardik has been improving as the season progresses. He has been very good tactically, leading with both bat and ball. “Gary Kirsten, baptism coach and mentor: “[Hardik has been] fantastic. He is a high profile guy in India, but he has been incredibly humble. He wants to learn as a leader. Especially in IPL and India, he wants to help young people. He has come in with a real responsibility, very different from seeing him in other IPLs. Great for Ashish i [team director] Vikram [Solanki] too. Brand new franchise, to form a team and make the guys act, amazing.
“[On team composition at auction:] Good balance, good depth but the most important thing is to have players who can play in different ways. With Ashish we have learned that we need to have boys who are versatile, and we have it in numbers 4, 5, 6 “.
Hardik Pandya (487 at 44.27 and eight ports at 27.75): “I wanted to show why I worked hard, and today has been the day from my bowling point of view, I saved the best for the best. [stage]. I think [that] the second ball of my spell I threw, after getting Sanju [Samson] outside, I saw that if you hit the port hard and you sink into the seam, something will happen. So for me it was about clinging to the right lengths and asking the batsmen to make a good shot instead of trying something and giving a limit.
“[On his batting:] Any day I would bring the trophy that I baptize at 160 or 170 [strike rate], the team is the most important thing, whatever team you play with. I’ve always been that kind of individual. The outside noise doesn’t bother me, and if I have to sacrifice myself and make a worse season and my team still wins, I’ll take it.
“Ashu and I. pa [Ashish Nehra] they are similar in terms of wanting to play five suitable bowling players, who can win games for you all day … Most of the time, I’ve seen T20 cricket, it’s a game of batsmen but bowling players win games for you. “.
Hardik Pandya
“[On batting at No. 4:] I’ve always thought of myself as a batsman. Baptism is the first thing for me, it will always be close to my heart, so obviously when we did the auction, it was clear that I had to baptize the order to guide … I have been in this kind of situation before , so for my team I thought it was the best position [No. 4] for me to baptize, so that all the other beaters can come to express themselves.
“[On team combination:] Me and Ashu pa [Ashish Nehra] they are similar in terms of wanting to play with five suitable bowling players, who can win you matches all day long. Obviously, batsmen can step in and make sure that what we need or when they need it, batsmen can raise their hand and say ‘let’s be there’. But most of the time, I’ve seen T20 cricket, it’s a game of batsmen, but bowlers win games for you.
“[Titans behind the scenes:] Many times, we won the game, but we always talked about what we missed and how we can do better. Much of the credit goes to all of Ashish’s support staff [Nehra] a [spin-bowling coach and scout] Ashish Kapoor, Gary [Kirsten], physiotherapists to masseurs, logistics team; everyone intervened, they were there to make sure all the players were comfortable, they felt at home.
“[On how this win is different from his previous IPL title wins:] Obviously, I consider myself lucky. I’ve been in five finals and won five times. It has been exciting. It will be special because we talked about creating a legacy and making sure that … this is for the next generation, everyone will remember that this was the team that started this journey and … the first year. [for us in the IPL] winning the championship is very special. “
Rashid Khan (19 ports at 10.15pm): “It is the greatest achievement of your career as a player to be part of a winning IPL team. It is one of the most important achievements for me in my cricket career.
“People said we were short, inexperienced batsmen. The franchise showed faith in David, me and Hardik. We’ve won now, so there’s nothing left to say.”
Rahul Tewatia
“[On the final:] We adjusted very quickly with the wicket. We knew it was the kind of wicket if they scored more than 150, it would be difficult, but we have to play in the right area and that’s what happened. Everyone took responsibility, the averages were very important and we played very well. “
Rahul Tewatia (217 races at 31.00): “We were relaxed in qualifying 1 and we depended on staying relaxed and taking the game in depth and finishing it.
“[On his feelings in the moment:] I don’t know about the party, but when the season started, someone asked me ‘what are your goals for IPL 2022?’ I said my only goal was to win a trophy with my new team. I don’t know about partying, but I definitely won’t sleep tonight.
“[On the team:] People said we were few beaters, little experience. The franchise showed faith in David, me and Hardik. We’ve won now, so there’s nothing left to say. “
Wriddhiman Saha (317 races at 31.70): “This season there are people who said we didn’t make a good team, so we showed that everyone was wrong. It feels good to win. Mohammed Shami got us a ball from the first ball of the season. We picked up momentum. from here. it has been excellent during the season. everyone has acted “.
“I think winning an IPL is as important as winning a World Cup and this is my fifth year and I’m lucky to win it this time.”
Shubman Gill
Mohammed Shami (20 ports at 24.40): “I’ve known Saha for 20 years. We know each other very well. Everyone knows his ability, he just needed a chance.”Shubman Gill (483 runs at 34.50): “It means a lot, you know after winning the Under-19 World Cup. I think winning an IPL is as important as winning a World Cup and this is my fifth year and I’m lucky to win it this time. I wanted to be there [batting] this time to the end and that was the talk with the coaches and we crossed the line. “Matthew Wade (157 runs at 3:70 p.m.): “We had a relaxed atmosphere. I didn’t trust a person too much even though Davey [Miller], Rashid and Hardik have had fantastic seasons. It’s been a real family atmosphere, that’s what Ashish created. Everyone has a lot of training time, he takes care of that. Everyone is welcome and you can see the performances. “
