The 2022 Roland Garros was won by Iga Swiatek. He won his second Grand Slam trophy of his career and pushed his winning streak to 35 straight victories by beating Coco Gauff 6-3 6-1.
It was largely a match where Swiatek dominated. He was expected to do so because he has already been here and has already won one. It was clear from the start that she was the calmest player, as a very erratic Coco Gauff lost her first game of service. From there, it was largely cruising control for her as she got a 6-1 victory in the first set.
The 2nd set got off to a good start for Gauff who opened up with a more aggressive approach and for a while it worked great. He went up 2-0 early on, but as soon as Swiatek settled in and re-centered a little more, he was able to get him back to 2-2. He added another break, then, to take control of the game and end it 6-3. A solid effort from Gauff but in the end it just isn’t enough.
Swiatek’s 18 winners and 16 unforced errors were simply better than Gauff, who had 14 winners and 23 unforced errors. This is the second Swiatke of the French Open to win his career.
