And for good reason: It’s been a while since such a crucial component as the lock screen has been completely transformed.
In iOS 16, the lock screen will be full of action with customizable widgets and interfaces so you can do more while you’re there.
Apple Insider reported that only a few Apple-produced apps have lock screen widgets ready for beta testing and early experimentation.
Widgets for News, Home, Batteries, Clock, Fitness, Reminders, Actions, and Weather have been confirmed.
Van Straaten believes that the widgets made by the major developers will increase the iPhone’s environmental computing capability.
“It will be a very clean and fluid experience with live widgets,” van Straaten said.
He gave the example that live widgets allow you to track an Uber from the lock screen, without having to unlock your device.
All the information you once needed to open your phone and select an app will be seen at a glance.
Finally, the notifications have adjusted a bit: they’ll appear at the bottom of the lock screen instead of the middle.
Background remover
“IOS is providing more than just a basic software package, but it’s really trying to push the boundaries when it comes to creativity,” van Straaten said.
The fundraising tool was unveiled at Apple’s World Developers Conference, and technology magazines have already praised it as a sleek, impressive addition.
The background removal tool is based on the same technology that powers the visual search function, which can provide information about objects in images.
Through machine learning, the device can “see” objects and search for them, give directions to landmarks in images, or crop the background.
Scraps can be copied and sent via iMessage or saved for later use.
“It works well with portraits and food,” van Straaten said. He added that the feature can even remove the background from screenshots of videos.
Duplicates
Van Straaten said creativity was at the forefront of iOS 16 and that there is nothing more creatively stifling than a device that moves slowly because storage is limited.
The user knows that there are hundreds of duplicate photos accumulating precious kilobytes, and the software is smart enough to recognize the images as copies.
In iOS 16, users will be able to delete duplicate photos in bulk with just a few taps.
The software gives the iPhone a better understanding of itself and what it can do to optimize its own performance to enhance the user experience.
