Blaze just unveiled the Evercade EXP and I want one as Pac-Man needs power pills. If you’re looking for an alternative to the standard video game console with an eye for design that celebrates the quirks of retro gaming, then the recently announced Evercade EXP should be at the top of your wish list.
Retro games have grown in recent years, moving from the niche hobby of container divers to a market for creative and trendy design. We have a guide to the best retro gaming consoles for more information, and include Nintendo and Commodore design classics. You can read my review of Evercade to catch up with Blaze’s first console, but the new Evercade EXP takes the idea a step further. And I love it.
The Evercade EXP (opens in a new tab) brings back game cartridges, yes, in 2022 I will love this technology from the 80’s and 90’s again, but it renews the idea in a soft white console case. The device includes a 4.3-inch high-resolution IPS display, a battery life of five hours, USB-C connectivity, HDMI output and is enabled for WiFi. Inside is a 1.5 Ghz processor and 4 GB of memory, enough for all the retro games you’ll need to run. Watch the trailer below to see a brilliant revelation video at the Apple level.
The sharp screen is eye-catching and has been designed to be visible from most angles. Covered with a tempered glass bezel for clearer vision and strong protection, it should survive even the worst airport delays.
The design secret of the Evercade EXP that catches my eye, though, is the TATE mode, which lets you rotate your handheld 90 degrees to play games like Flying Shark vertically, just as they were designed over the years. 80.
The Evercade EXP is a retro console that supports 8-bit to 32-bit games, pixel and 3D titles from before. It will be released in September with the IREM Arcade 1 collection, which includes hits from my childhood that I need to play again, such as R-Type, Mr. Heli and In The Hunt.

Collectors can go to Funstock for an exclusive black edition that includes the additional game collection, Taoplan Arcade 1, with titles Flying Shark, Tiger-Heli and Snow Bros. Only 5,000 of the Evercade EXP Limited Edition will be made. so be sure to check out the Funstock booking site.
If you like retro games but want more options, you should consider having a Nintendo Switch Lite or a standard Nintendo Switch, both of which can play classic games reissued in the Nintendo Store and support remakes of vintage video games. If you want to get involved in game design, a Nintendo Switch or Evercade EXP will inspire you.
