iOS 16 adds horizontal support for Face ID on “compatible iPhone models”

Apple unveiled iOS 16 at yesterday’s WWDC event, which includes a major redesign on the lock screen, among other things. An unannounced change in the scenario is how it goes through the lock screen: Face ID will work in landscape mode on “compatible iPhone models”.

It’s not clear what they are right now, it could be as simple as “everything but the SE” or there may be limits to preventing older models with Face ID from being supported. This will become clear as iOS 16 approaches the launch.

By the way, landscape mode will work for everything that Face ID is used for, including site sign-in and purchase approval.

Landscape Face ID is not a new feature, some iPads have been supporting it for years. But not iPhones, so this is a welcome change.
