iOS 16 and watchOS 9 add support for drug tracking

With iOS 16 and watchOS 9, Apple makes it easy for users to track their medications. Medications, vitamins, and supplements can be added to the Health app on OSiOS 16‌ for follow-up purposes, and personalized reminders can be set to take medications.

You can add your prescription drugs to the iPhone Health app using the new “Medications” category. You can search for and add your medications manually or scan them using your iPhone’s camera. If you are scanning a drug, just give the app permission and then put your drug in the camera frame.

Most of the time, the iPhone can read the label and interpret what you’re taking, though you may need to adjust the dose. From here, you can add how long you take it and how often you take it to receive a reminder. You can create a personalized calendar for each medicine and give each one a unique image with a customizable background.

If you have an Apple Watch, all of your medications are listed in the new Medications app, which makes it very easy to check them when you take them. Tap a medicine in the app, then tap Take or Skip to register.

You can also mark medications as prisoners in the iPhone Health app, but it’s easier on the Apple Watch. A drug marked as a prisoner goes into the “Registered” section of the app.

In addition to tracking your medications and sending reminders to take them, the Health app is also able to detect possible drug interactions and let you know if you’re taking a dangerous combination. You can export your drugs in a PDF list, and your drug information can be shared with family members.

Medication is just a new health feature on the iPhone, with Apple also introducing support for an activity app that can keep track of your daily movement even if you don’t have an Apple Watch.
