Apple has just released iOS 16 beta 2 for developers, and while we’re still not sure exactly what’s new, the company has confirmed a subtle change with today’s update. With the latest beta version of iOS 16, users will finally be able to back up their devices to iCloud using LTE and 5G networks.
According to the iOS 16 beta 2 release notes, the update allows iCloud to be backed up over a mobile network for all users. Previously, iCloud backup was only available over Wi-Fi and supported 5G networks, but this required your carrier to provide this option.
Here’s what Apple says:

New features in iOS and iPadOS 16 beta 2: Customers using iOS 16 can now back up their device over a mobile LTE connection, as well as a 5G or Wifi connection. (95276719)
In addition to supporting iCloud backup over LTE and 5G, iOS 16 offers other new features, such as a redesigned lock screen with widgets, extended focus mode, iMessage enhancements, passwords, and far more.
For now, iOS 16 beta 2 is still available exclusively for developers. According to Apple, the first public beta will be released in July, while the official release is expected this fall. Testers should still expect performance and stability issues when running iOS 16 beta on major devices at this time.
