iOS 16 beta 2 improves SMS filtering in message guides for iPhone users

As Apple has just released iOS 16 beta 2, the company announced in the operating system version some new features that will come to Messages related to SMS filtering. Here’s all the news on this with beta 2.

Apple had already announced at a WWDC 2022 session that iOS 16 would add 12 new subcategories to the SMS filtering API. With beta 2, they are now available for developers. The company stated that iOS 16 beta 2 “allows developers to classify incoming SMS from unknown numbers into 12 new subcategories within the transaction and promotion categories to improve organization.”

In addition, iPhone users with dual SIMs can now filter their messages based on their SIMs. They can choose to show “All lines” or just their primary or secondary SIM number.

With iOS 16 beta 2, Apple also said that for selected U.S. carriers, Messages expands the “Report spam” feature to allow users to report unwanted SMS / MMS messages to carriers. This option is visible in Messages from unknown senders.

Last but not least, for Indian users, Messages now supports extracting SMS events. These event and appointment messages are presented as suggestions from Siri and are also presented to users in the message thread and in the calendar inbox.

Apple also recognizes a bug in Messages in iOS 16 beta 2:
