IOS 16 is reported to include an always-on display feature for future iPhones

With WWDC 2022 just over a week away, more details are emerging about what Apple might announce at its annual developer conference. In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg suggests that the company will have a fair amount to share about iOS 16, including improvements to the lock screen. Gruman says the next version of Apple’s mobile operating system will include widgets with widget-like capabilities.

In addition, it is reported that iOS 16 will include support for an always-on display feature that will initially be exclusive to the company’s upcoming iPhone Pro models. The feature will allow these devices to show you notifications and other visual information without having to fully wake up their screens. This is a feature that has long been available on many Android phones, and Apple reportedly planned to add it to the iPhone 13 last year, but later changed its plans.

Reiterating his previous predictions, Gurman says iOS 16 will also include improvements in how the operating system handles multitasking and windows. Gurman cites a recent tweet from developer Steve Troughton-Smith showing that Apple is probably working on a way to allow iOS users to resize application windows. This is a feature that would be especially useful on the iPad. Gurman says he also expects the company to add new social media-like features to Messages. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to see what Apple has planned for iOS 16. WWDC 2022 begins on June 6th.
