IPhone and iPad users will soon be able to switch between YouTube and other apps. Here’s how

YouTube has become the reference app for everything related to videos. Android users have the advantage of using it as a mini player while using other apps, iOS users did not have this feature. Now, there is good news for iPhone users.

Google has announced that it will launch the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature for iPhone users. Not only on iPhones, the feature can also be used on iPad devices.

“We recognize that it has been a slow launch for a much-requested feature and we want to thank everyone who shared feedback during the experiments and wait,” the company announced in a blog post.

U.S. users will have access to PiP for non-music content in the YouTube app on iPhones and iPads. Meanwhile, the company announced that it will give access to PiP for music and non-music content to all premium members around the world. For Apple devices, the PiP feature will be available on iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 devices.

  • Go to “General” and activate PiP mode
  • Users will be able to use background play by default

To test PiP on YouTube while a video is playing, exit the app by swiping up from the bottom of the screen, or pressing the home button. PiP windows are mobile and allow users to place them wherever they want.

Meanwhile, users of Android devices with premium subscriptions on YouTube already have access to the feature and will continue to do so.
