IPhones redesign from lock screen and buy now, pay later at Apple WWDC

Apple is redesigning the iPhone lock screen, the company announced at its annual developer conference, the most important visual redesign that iOS 16 has received since the introduction of the iPhone X.

When users are currently limited to changing only the wallpaper, starting this fall, they will be able to change the look of the clock, set small widgets on the front screen, and minimize notifications at the bottom of the screen. And they can go through several lock screens, with different looks and features for different use cases: a work lock screen could set emails and mute social media, for example, while a head lock screen week could have more informal images and hide communications. from work.

Craig Federighi, head of software engineering at Apple, said the redesign introduced “an incredible set of new customization features that will make your experience feel fresh and incredibly you.”

The new features will be available for older iPhones, but are likely to work in conjunction with the upcoming iPhone 14, which is rumored to have an always-on screen.

The company has also announced a move to the “buy now, pay later” space, competing with companies such as Klarna and ClearPay to offer users a four-month interest-free loan on any payments made with the payment infrastructure. The e-commerce platform Shopify allows users to track the progress of their orders in the Apple Wallet app.

In addition to the visual redesign, iOS 16 will include other new features:

  • The Messages app will allow users to edit, or even remember, iMessages sent in error.

  • Dictation has been redesigned to make it easier to switch between dictating text and editing it with a keyboard.

  • Live text will now work with video, allowing users to crop and pause text from a video.

  • Apple Maps allows users to add multiple stops to a route and sync them between iOS and Mac.

  • A new “shared photo library” allows families to seamlessly group all of their photos into a shared online library.

  • “Security Check” allows people who leave abusive relationships to cut off all access given to others with a single click.

  • The Fitness app, previously limited to users with an Apple Watch, will now also be on iPhones, tracking steps and movement.
