It’s hard to believe that Google Drive has just received copy / paste shortcuts

Google has announced that it is adding the ability to use keyboard shortcuts to cut, copy, and paste files into Drive, as long as you’re using Chrome. The function will use … okay, wait a minute here. Are you really trying to tell me we couldn’t do it anymore?

Indeed, when I went to Google Drive on the web and pressed Command + C on a file, then went into a folder and pressed Command + V, nothing happened. And this December 2021 file from Drive’s keyboard shortcut list says nothing about features. Which, of course, made the keyboard shortcut to copy, cut, and paste from the invention of functions in the 1970s.

The feature is now being implemented, however, and Google Post says that you can use the standard C / X, V and V control / command to copy and move files as you would in almost any other file manager. The company says the feature should be available to everyone by June 4th.

Google doesn’t skimp on the functionality of its keyboard shortcuts, at least. Gif: Google

Although Google arrives late to the party in this case, at least its implementation is not in the middle. Yes, you are adding basic shortcuts, but the feature will also work on different tabs (Google has also added a keyboard shortcut to open a folder as a new tab: Ctrl / Cmd + Enter). And if you copy a file and try to paste it, for example, into a Google document or email, it will insert the title of the file and a link.

You can also paste shortcuts to files if you don’t want duplicate versions of your entire cloud storage system. The command for this will be Ctrl / Cmd + Shift + V.

Recently, Google has come a long way in adding better features than ever before; on Wednesday, it announced that the ability to select multiple blocks of text will come to Google Docs.
