It’s been a disappointing season for the Pittsburgh Pirates (26-39), but rookie Jack Suwinski provided a bright spot during Sunday’s 4-3 win over the San Francisco Giants.
The left fielder was 3-for-3 with three homers, three RBIs and a walk, with the final long ball winning the game freely. He made a bit of history in the process, becoming the first major league baseball debutant to hit three homers and one outing in the same game.

“It’s amazing,” Suwinski told MLB.com’s Justice delos Santos. “Doing it on Father’s Day with my dad here, I know it means a lot to him, and it means a lot to me, just the amount he’s done for me. He’s always been there. Just being able to share that, knowing that it’s here, it’s fantastic. It’s hard to describe. “

Pittsburgh has won two of its last four games, which is good news after losing the previous nine.
Suwinski will look to keep things going for a set of four games against the Chicago Cubs starting Monday.
