Biden, 79, and First Lady Jill Biden were finishing a morning walk when the president decided to pedal toward a crowd of supporters standing by the side of the bike path. Biden, wearing a helmet, grabbed the spill when he tried to dismount, apparently fell on his right side and rolled his back before being helped.
The president picked himself up quickly and spent a few minutes chatting with people who had gathered to watch him ride a bike. Biden did not need medical attention and is “fine,” according to a White House statement.
About seven hours later, Biden attended Mass at St Edmond’s Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach. When he appeared after the services, spectators applauded and reporters shouted questions about how he was feeling. The president smiled and made three jumps as he waved his hands as if jumping on a rope.
