Efforts to protect and preserve the block of ecclesiastical buildings surrounding and including the Basilica have been successful.
This would mean that the Basilica, the College of St. Bonaventure and the Forum of St. Bonus would be owned by an association that was formed to protect the buildings from potential developers after they were put up for sale to meet financial obligations to resolve sexual abuse claims. related to the old Mount Cashel orphanage.
