“Jurassic World: Dominion” provokes first mixed reactions, from “Roaring Fun” to “Excessive and Useless Excess”

The American premiere of “Jurassic World: Dominion” has officially ended in Los Angeles and the first reactions to the dinocentric sequel are pouring online, with entertainment writers saying the whole follow-up, from a good success from nostalgia to a bad one. As with most sequels in the “Jurassic” series, “Dominion” is getting a mixed response.

Universal has positioned “Dominion” as the end of the franchise, organizing a collection of old and new “Jurassic” stars. The film stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, who starred in the 1993 Steven Spielberg original. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return after starring in 2015’s “Jurassic World” and “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.” of 2018, while newcomers to the series DeWanda Wise and Mamoudou Athie also join the cast of the new entry.

“Dominion” resumes after the events of “Fallen Kingdom”, with dinosaurs now roaming the Earth and forcing the human race to closely monitor its position as the world’s largest predators. The director of “Jurassic World”, Colin Trevorrow, returns to direct the end of the series.

Although “Jurassic World: Dominion” does not hit US theaters until Friday, Universal has already given the sequel a global release limited to 15 international markets. The sequel grossed $ 55.4 million at the international box office over the weekend, with its biggest starts in Mexico and Korea.

Variety Jazz senior artisan editor Tangcay praised the film, calling it a “fun, roaring adventure.” Tangcay also stated that dinosaurs “are bigger and better than ever.”

#jurassicworlddominion is a great fun and roaring adventure. Dinosaurs are bigger and better than ever. It’s a non-stop dinosaur action. And the return of Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill reached nostalgia. I just love them. pic.twitter.com/Z7kvy3SkpO

Variety senior awards editor Clayton Davis called the film “nostalgia for speeding,” while hiding his exact opinion on the sequel under his previous conclusion that “it will make a lot of money.”

Let’s be clear … no matter what he says about #JurassicWorldDominion – he’ll make a lot of money. Challenge logic. It’s a movie where things happen and people know things “because” – smoke a leek, get drunk and have fun. Overdrive nostalgia. pic.twitter.com/eD7hViPYSd

Variety critic and contributor Courtney Howard summed up her reaction with “BAD,” claiming that “Dominion” marks a lower-quality franchise.

#JurassicWorldDominion = DOUBLE. He ignores the premise he should have had from the beginning, instead, he synthetically designs 2 completely different, uninteresting and empty stories that he struggles to connect. Some effects look polished, others stringy. The worst of the franchise. pic.twitter.com/0xbyUR6O9d

Digital Spy’s Ian Sandwell described the film as “disappointing for an end”, although it highlights the reunion of the characters of Neill, Dern and Goldblum as the strong point of the film.

It offers the show you’re looking forward to, but #JurassicWorldDominion feels disappointing for an end as it treads on familiar ground. Glad to see the OG trio, though, and their thread is the strongest, even if it inadvertently reveals the insignia that JW’s characters are in comparison. pic.twitter.com/IT2yXfhMFY

Collider’s Perri Nemiroff dug the sequel, highlighting the performance of Bryce Dallas Howard as the highlight of the film.

#JurassicWorldDominion offers an excellent mix of practical and digital effects. Dinosaurs look great. Dimetrodon’s scene is … in my alley. Bryce Dallas Howard runs away with the film, and the new trilogy for it. Claire experiences a bow and Howard rises with it. pic.twitter.com/5qWYkddi9e

Insider’s Kirsten Acuna recommends revisiting the original “Jurassic Park” before launching into “Dominion.”

#JurassicWorldDominion is at its best when the old and new cast are together. Fans of the franchise should enjoy this. Many glances at the OG. I recommend a close review. pic.twitter.com/WfRSqzsM81

Gizmodo and io9 senior journalist Germain Lussier described the film as “overly indulgent and pointless”, with dinosaurs serving as little more than a “showcase” for a couple of monotonous plot lines. .

Really, Jurassic World Dominion is bad. Very bad. It’s too long, it’s very repetitive, and dinosaurs hide in various uninteresting, unrelated stories. The actors do their best, but everything is exaggerated and useless. One of the worst, if not the worst, of the franchise.

#JurassicWorldDominion is absolutely terrible. It’s like a bunch of photographs that brainstorm dinocentric theme park attractions and put them into a movie. Insects are more prominent than dinosaurs. A failure on all fronts with a failed ethic. Save your effort. 🤦🏻‍♀️

My gut reaction after leaving #JurassicWorldDominion is that this is the worst movie in a franchise I love. It’s too long, the action sequences are downright ugly and generally too bloated. So, I smiled at the rhythms of nostalgia and the little dinos, so too? pic.twitter.com/BA1J4uFOMD

GOOD NEWS: #JurassicWorldDominion is my favorite movie from the new Jurassic trilogy. It’s packed with thrilling dinosaur encounters and much more Jeff Goldblum, but it also has a great balance of creepy, inventive scenarios with some choices reminiscent of what happened before. A solid finish. pic.twitter.com/G6bMCDUecL

I am not happy to report that #JurassicWorldDominion is a BIG disappointment. While the film features some amazing dinosaur sequences and it’s great to see the original cast on the big screen, the film doesn’t live up to what the previous films promised. pic.twitter.com/AsGoqMsrSf

Honestly, I’m still supporting the dinosaurs. #JurassicWorldDominion
