Korean boys band BTS celebrated its ninth anniversary with a shocking announcement: the group is on hiatus.

RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook broke the news during “Festa”, their annual live anniversary event. K-pop sensations said they decided to take advantage of this time to pursue solo projects and “learn to be new.”

The band thanked their fans and urged them to think of this as a necessary step for the group: “I hope you don’t see it as a negative thing and see it as a healthy plan,” J-Hope said. “I think BTS will get stronger that way.”

In addition to talking about their future solo ventures (things are already underway for J-Hope, Suga and Jungkook), they reflected on their many successes.

The genius of the brand of the K-pop band BTS

Since BTS appeared on the scene in 2013, they have been a force. Scoring the band successfully would be an understatement: in 2019, BTS was the first group since the Beatles to have three No. 1 hits in a year in the Billboard Top 200. Wembley Stadium sold out of 90,000 people in London in 90 minutes. Three years ago, the sale of tickets for his tour crashed the Ticketmaster website, with an average price of $ 452. BTS not only has fans, but it has an army, which is by chance what fans call it.

The news of the break-up is obviously devastating for his fans, especially those who remember some other famous breaks from the boys band. One Direction took an indefinite break in January 2016 and have not yet met. NSYNC has been technically on hiatus since 2002 and the band members are having fun. he said they didn’t break up seven years ago, but they haven’t released any new music since.

But there’s hope: just watch the big return of Big Time Rush, the recent Jonas Brothers world tour, the Fall Out Boy bounce, and more.

The future of the band is still unknown, but Suga made one thing clear: “It’s not like we’re breaking up!”
