Manchester City have reached an agreement with Leeds United for the signing of Kalvin Phillips, according to Athletic.
England international Phillips is nearing a transfer to the Etihad following positive discussions between City and Leeds over a fee.
The city is willing to pay £ 42 million with potential bonuses worth £ 3 million.
Phillips was the club’s main midfielder in this window and Premier League champions increased their interest in him after completing the signing of striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund last week.
Leeds have been increasingly resigned to losing Phillips in the early stages of this window with City’s intentions becoming clearer.
The 26-year-old is currently on holiday and is scheduled to return to pre-season training with Leeds on 4 July in nine days, but progress in negotiations could see the terms of a transfers will be completed next week.
Phillips, who went through Leeds academy and reached new heights with former club coach Marcelo Bielsa, has two years left on his contract at Elland Road.
He has been looking forward to joining City since his interest arose, a change that would secure him the Champions League next season and likely consolidate his place in the English national team for the Qatar World Cup.
Leeds have already signed a midfielder this summer, Marc Roca from Bayern Munich, but will sign another proven player in this position if Phillips’ move to City crosses the line successfully.
Tyler Adams of RB Leipzig is among the options they are monitoring. Adams played with Leeds head coach Jesse Marsch at his first club, the New York Red Bulls.
Meanwhile, it is understood Manchester City midfielder Darko Gyabi, 18, could go to Elland Road with a £ 5 million deal. This transfer is being discussed separately in the Phillips agreement.
