A popular power-pop of the 80’s is experiencing a spectacular resurgence in the charts, thanks to the great success of the TV show Stranger Things.
Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill appeared as the soundtrack for a scene from the opening episode of the highly anticipated fourth season of the sci-fi adventure drama, which aired on Netflix last week.
The song becomes an important point in the plot for episode four, as it is revealed to be the favorite melody of mourning Max Mayfield, played by Sadie Sink.
It’s still the centerpiece of what has become one of the most praised scenes of the new season, but you’ll have to watch it yourself to find out why.
The use of the song has exposed the English pop art singer to a whole new generation of fans, quickly going viral on TikTok and entering the 50 most popular songs on Spotify.
The song also hit the iTunes charts and reached number one just 48 hours after the season’s release, far exceeding its 30-minute high on Billboard when it first premiered in 1985.
Strange things co-star Winona Ryder put a pin on Kate Bush at the recent premiere of the new season, explaining USA Today who has been “obsessed with (Bush) since she was little.”
“I’ve also been leaving tracks on set for the last seven years, wearing my Kate Bush T-shirts,” she said.
“At my school, you had to dress up for physical education, and sometimes I wouldn’t. I just sat there with my headphones listening to her. She is my hero. “
