Kate, who is also the mother of 12-year-old son Billy with Derek, added that she is trying to “embrace” life after her family has struggled for the past two and a half years after Derek became ill.
He said he showed his partner photos of Darcey in his party dress and that he can now press the phone button to make him FaceTime.
Kate confirmed Wednesday this week that Derek, who has required 24-hour care since he contracted coronavirus in March 2020, had returned to a medical center, insisting he was “okay.”
Tearing: Kate is waiting for a time when Derek can come home again to be with her family after she misses her 16-year-old daughter, Darcey, who is going to the graduation party.
She told The Sun: “Okay, he’s actually back in the hospital, so that’s a development. Here we are. ‘
Kate admitted that the couple’s two children have been “amazing” in supporting their father.
Speaking at the TRIC Awards in London at Grosvenor House, he said: “They have been amazing to the end.”
Derek spent more than a year in hospital before returning home in April 2021, but has continued to fight the aftermath of Covid after the virus hit his body.
Earlier this week, Kate thanked fans for her help after reuniting with her husband’s medication after leaving her in a taxi.
Long battle: Kate told The Sun on Wednesday this week: “She’s been in the hospital for a couple of months now. She’s been coming in and out. ‘
The TV presenter initially tweeted a post on Black Cab Lost Property, writing: ‘@BC_Lostproperty help !! I just took Derek home in a black mobility taxi from the hospital for a weekend visit, I left a case with all his medications and kit up front! (sic) ‘
He then added: ‘The driver recognized me, but you may not know he is there, please look, get in touch, you need it urgently !! (sic)’
Kate was inundated with offers of help, including from a follower who said she knew the driver.
They wrote in a message to Kate, “I know the driver Kate, as she said she had taken you and your husband tonight. I’m trying to get in touch right now.
The next day, the star returned to social media to confirm that the lost medication had been found and returned it to him.
She wrote, “It’s been returned! Thanks to everyone who came along – the message reached the lovely driver Robert who returned it – uh and thank you all. #Happy Sunday to everyone. ‘
Kate recently admitted that she hopes to take Derek to Buckingham Palace to pick up her MBE.
She said: “I feel there is room for celebration, though, and my hope is that if we finally do a ceremony, Derek will move further in his recovery and we can go together. That would be wonderful.
“When you almost lose someone, you definitely put it all in a clear approach.
“In many ways, we are still learning how we are as a man and a woman, as many things have changed.
“The same thing happens to children: they have to relearn the experience of being with their father. And, of course, the greatest learning is for poor Derek.
