While many British Colombians suffer from health system delays in BC, a Kelowna man says he would not be alive if it were not for KGH nurses and doctors.
“I mean if you were in there, and you saw what I saw for four days, these nurses wouldn’t stop. They work 12 hours.”
Andy Hoard says he had little energy and just didn’t feel well, so he went to the hospital Sunday morning. “I was under bad weather. I need to get in and see someone and I thought I would get in and out in 20 minutes.”
It turns out Hoard was in the hospital for four days.
“It simply came to our notice then. I was told that I have low platelets in my blood and that a quarter of my heart is not working now and will never work. I would never have known if they hadn’t done these tests, ”Hoard says.
He is now out of the hospital, but he is so grateful for the care he received that he wanted to do something to thank you. Hoard says while he was in the hospital he could hear the nurses talking about eating Canadian Brewhouse pizzas, “so I called Canadian Brewhouse and said, look, what can we do?”
It turns out that CEO Kristen Neil loved the idea and decided to deliver pizzas to the Trauma Care and Zone 5 medical floors.
“Today we wanted to surprise the amazing medical team at Kelowna General Hospital to show our support and appreciation for all they bring to the Kelowna community,” Neil said. “Their work and the challenges they face have not gone unnoticed and are not forgotten! We thought it would be a fun and delicious way to show them that we care.”
The Canadian Brewhouse delivered 12 great pizzas on Friday afternoon and Neil says returning to the community is an important part of the Canadian Brewhouse philosophy.
Hoard says he had no idea what kind of pressure and chaos can be found in the hospital’s emergency and trauma room.
“I saw car accident victims come in, their faces open, their chests open in bunk beds, paramedics, everywhere, the police everywhere. It’s chaos controlled and how they control it. I don’t know, but I they saved lives, ”Hoard said.
