Studies show that people with this hair color are less attractive, but after Kendall Jenner changed her appearance, Australians changed their minds.
A hair color that was once described as the “least desirable” is now so popular, hairdressers report a large influx of demand.
Unfortunately, red hair has been underestimated for decades, and studies conclude that people born naturally with hair color suffer the most in the dating world, a term called “redhead prejudice.”
But after years of being brutally labeled as the “least attractive” hair color, redheads are finally passing a moment.
In the last two months, stars like Kendall Jenner, famous for her almost black hair, blonde actress Sydney Sweeney and singer Doja Cat have abandoned their typical hair colors in favor of a red hue.
Copper in particular, a warm red hue, is being seen everywhere, with famous Sydney hair colorist Jaye Edwards telling The Beauty Diary on news.com.au that there is a reason many people she is “obsessed” with it.
“I think after the pandemic, people are looking for a change. We are seeing so many requests for a complete transformation in the living room,” he said.
“Natural copper tones are a great choice for those looking for a transformation, as they can be adapted to different complexions.
“It’s a bold look, but when combined with lighter nuances, it looks” born with it “instead of” from the bottle. ”
Jaye, owner of eight EdwardsAndCo salons based in Australia, also added that Kendall’s recent transformation “has inspired many people to try this look”, with the award-winning hairdresser saying he had seen an increase in demand between its customers.
“The deep, natural-looking brown tones as well as the coppery blond tones have made a big comeback, while the vibrant red has occupied the back seat,” he said.
There has also been an influx of TikTok users who share videos with the hashtags “#kendallshair” and “#copperhair”, many of which have hundreds of thousands of views, which show that the color is really stylish.
“Why did I wait so long,” an influencer captioned in her transformation video, which had more than 940,000 views.
American colorist Matt Rez, the man behind Kendall’s dramatic hair renovation, said he was “pleasantly surprised that everyone was splashing and looking for the warmth of the copper tone.”
“Copper colors are trending on TikTok with instructional videos and no doubt more of my clients are asking for warmer colors these days,” Rez said. WWD recently.
“Blondes are open to playing with strawberry tones and brunettes want to change to red tones or become very warm with their glitter for a reddish hue.
“Hairdressers love to make a good red hair color; it’s a fun challenge for us.”
If you are looking forward to a whole new copper making, I can relate to you wholeheartedly. As a fake redhead in recent years, I’ve been looking at copper for a long time.
I recently threw myself into Jaye’s newest salon in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.
The whole process took about six hours because we had to remove the deep shades of my vibrant red color to get to a place where it had the copper shade. It’s definitely a long time in a chair, but I have no regrets. I’m obsessed with my new golden locks.
Jaye recommends not resorting to box dyes if you are thinking of changing your hair for copper and advises you to be prepared to cover the cost of regular maintenance visits with your colorist.
“Going to copper can be a great piece, but it’s probably the hardest color to maintain and will require several trips to the salon to keep that color fresh,” he warned.
“Color fades faster and it’s almost impossible to achieve without a professional.”
There are products that can help lengthen the color, and Jaye advises you to buy
“professional quality products / salon” that say “safe for colored hair”.
“These products do not contain sulfates and parabens, which fade faster,” he said.
“Vibrant peach tones will always fade over time; I recommend investing in a copper pigmented treatment mask, such as the Christophe Robin Copper Shades Variation Mask.
“I also suggest booking for regular glosses; These are quick 15-minute treatments at the salon that help you repaint without booking a full-color service.
One of the main reasons I decided to switch from the bold red I had earlier was in an attempt to bring some longevity to my color.
Previously, I had about four weeks at best before having to look for a color or foam with a color conditioner again, which was my favorite option as it is much cheaper.
But with copper, I’m finding that it stays fresh for about eight weeks, which is a big difference.
I have been using Redken Acidic Bonding Shampoo and Conditioner after my hairdresser recommended it to me. It has certainly kept my color fresh and vibrant, though of course there is still a bit of discoloration over time, but it’s not as spectacular as my old shade.
It also has an adhesion technology, which seals the hair cuticle, helping to block moisture and color pigment.
In the three months I’ve been using it, my hair has become noticeably shiny with far fewer split ends. Even my hairdresser commented when I cut my hair recently, noting that it shouldn’t be removed as much as it usually does.
Although a bottle costs $ 45 per 300 ml at AdoreBeauty (both the shampoo and conditioner are priced the same), I only use a small amount of it as it foams perfectly, so a bit is very useful. I’ve had it for about three months and I’m only about halfway there.
